A salon, café and gallery in Halifax’s historic North End, whose innate desire is to make a difference not just economically, but socially within our community.
Fred Connors is the mastermind behind the unique combination of a hair salon, café and art gallery which has been turning heads in Halifax’s trendy North End since it opened in 2004. The FRED. story started in the fall of 2003 when Connors was the co-owner and stylist at a downtown hair salon on Barrington Street. Business was great until Hurricane Juan tore through the city and destroyed many downtown businesses including Connors’. Waking up to realize that you no longer had a business would be terrifying to most, but Connors saw the adversity as a new adventure.
Connors and his life partner Joel Flewelling purchased the then vacant Bank of Nova Scotia at the corner of North and Agricola, in the emerging albeit neglected North End neighborhood. The two combined their passions of beauty, food and design in creating the affordable luxury brand FRED.
Fred Connors is a strong supporter of growing his business by cultivating growth within his community. He is adamant about fostering an environment that supports new ideas and creates opportunities for young talent, so that not only his business but his community can continue to grow.
